It may not quite be an OBE on the New Year Honours list, but 107.6 Juice FM’s longest standing DJ – Anton Powers – has been named ‘Liverpool DJ Of The Year 2009’ by The Liverpool ECHO regional newspaper.
Anton, who records under the name 'Cahill', hosts three shows and performed two sets at this years Creamfields dance festival where he DJ'ed in the Subliminal Arena alongside Erick Morillo, David Guetta and Axwell.
Erick Morillo has been charged with possession of cocaine following an incident at Glasgow Airport on his way to a gig at The Arches in Glasgow over the Xmas break.Morillo, 37, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court at the end of December.
He has been released on bail and will need to return to Scotland for the full trial in March.
Defected Records will be celebrating their tenth birthday in February.To celebrate they'll be going on a world tour which will kick off at The Ministry of Sound on Saturday January 24.
That's not all. They'll also be releasing a commemorative '10 years of Clubland Adventures' album.
The album is likely to be a quintruple (that's 5) CD pack featuring 60 of the UK house label's finest offerings as well as a fully LIVE gig with some of its most legendary musicians and vocalists.
Indie Electronic sensation Patrick Wolf has announced plans to allow fans to buy shares in his album, a double disc featuring Alec Empire on one half of production duties. Wolf will be releasing the disc on his newly formed Bloody Chamber Music imprint, which explains why he's looking for a spot of cash to make up for the production costs of the album.
Fans of the eclectic performer are being asked to visit Bandstock.com and purchase shares in the album.
In an interview with NME, Patrick said, "Basically, you can invest in the finishing of the album and the production of it, and you get a share in the album. So you almost become part of the record company, like a co-owner of the album."
Heavenly Planet will be a new festival launching in '09 in Reading.The two day, all weather event features TC & Jakes, Chase & Status MC Fuse Takura and Plan B.
As well as the UK event, taking place from Friday 10 until Sunday 12 July, another Heavenly Planet will take place in Sicily.
The festival will consist of three arenas erected on the banks of the Thames on the Reading Promenade.

Germany is getting another much needed techno club, this new venue will be called 'Dice'.
Set inside the capital city's old abandoned electricity station the new venue is now providing power to the mighty Funktion One sound system as well as a full lighting rig provided by German club installation heavyweights 'Room Division'.
Dice, is set to open on 14th of February and promises a positivly charged line up of international DJs and live acts including Luke Solomon, Simon Baker, Ralph Lawson, Dirt Crew, Aux 88 and Spirit Catcher, who will all be playing early 2009 alongside a host of up and coming local talent.
Notorious nightclub owner, Layo Paskin has announced that the end of 'The End' will not spell the end for the legendry parties hosted by the soon to close nightclub.On Saturday March 7th, Layo will be hosting the first in a series of London warehouse raves, headlined by End Club regular Laurent Garnier.

DJ Hero is rumoured to contain turntable style controllers and will support Guitar Hero controllers for the ultimate co-op jam session.
